Who is Jimmy Buffett?
Jimmy Buffett has been recording music, writing books and entertaining us since the early 1970’s. You may recall his most famous tune, Margaritaville; but like the Parrot Head phlock, Buffett is more than that. He describes a lifestyle as a state of mind; it’s a place we can go (if only in our minds sometimes) where the sea water is warm, the trade winds blow, and the only worry is whether the CD player will accommodate all of Buffett’s 30+ recordings and that the ice in our Boat Drink doesn’t melt too fast.  Relax and enjoy the ride.  To learn more about him, go to
www.buffettnews.com or www.margaritaville.com.

What's a Parrot Head?

To explain briefly, a Parrot Head is a fan of Jimmy Buffett.  Jimmy Buffett performs a unique style of music that comprises aspects of country, reggae, pop, jazz, and folk styles and mixes in a taste of the Caribbean.  Jimmy, himself, calls it Caribbean rock.  This is what Jimmy Buffett has to say about how the parrot heads came to be:  "Timothy B. Schmidt (Eagles bass player) was in the band, and we were playing a venue outside of Cincinnati called King's Island.  People had already started wearing Hawaiian shirts to our shows, but we looked out at this Cincinnati crowd, and they were glaringly brilliant to the point where it got our attention immediately. I said "Look at that!" Then Schmidt says to me, "They look like deadheads in tropical suits.  They're like PARROT HEADS!" He yelled to me in the middle of a song.  So I immediately took the term and threw it over the microphone - the people identified themselves with the term from the get-go."

What is the club about?

Our Mission: (Why we are)

The Parrot Heads of the Triad is a regional group of Parrot Heads belonging to the national organization, Parrot Heads in Paradise. PHIP consists of over 200 member clubs (and growing all the time!) in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. The clubs provide a network for like-minded Parrot Heads to enjoy each other’s company, keep current on Buffett’s work, and sponsor or participate in events that benefit charities which touch the lives of Parrot Heads, their families, and the whole community of life here on this big round ball.

You don’t have to drink to be a Parrot Head. Some of us do, but that’s not what it is about. It’s about being with old friends and meeting new ones.  It’s about relaxing and taking in the wonderful world around us. It’s about getting off our cans and doing a little work to help those that aren't as fortunate as we are. It’s about listening to the words of a song that mean something to you and not letting your dreams fade away.

How long has this club been in existence?

This club was been around since 1998.  The idea and organization of this club was formed by Donna Hopgood.  She was having family gatherings and parties around the Buffett theme, and decided to make a club for everyone's enjoyment.  Some of the first  Happy Hours were just a few family members and the club has grown into over 90 members.  The members have been having fun and involved with community service ever since.
